Bush School Program

Bush school is based on the international philosophy of Forest School and provides students with the opportunity to engage all their senses in their learning experience. They experiment, discover and explore the real world around them. These engaging, open-ended experiences support creative learning Children are encouraged to solve problems and to engage in teamwork, as they play and learn outdoors.

Our weekly bush school program is unique to our school, it incorporates all areas of the curriculum especially science, design and technology as well as interpersonal skills. We embed a strong focus on teaching Aboriginal perspectives into all aspects of our curriculum including bush school.

A Bush School approach to learning also promotes and supports student engagement and wellbeing by encouraging students to take time to notice changes in our environment, engage in outdoor activities and develop practices of showing gratitude which are all practices which have benefits for our mental health and wellbeing.

We are excited to be working in partnership with Eco Explorers to implement Bush School as part of the regular curriculum at Christmas Hills Primary School and are proud to be the first government school in Victoria to do so.
